Geographical Location
Located at the southern section of Huatung Gorge, Guanshan Town borders the Coastal Mountains and Tunghe Township in the east. It connects to Cishang in the south; Heiruei Township on the Central mountain, in the east; Luye Township, in the south. And Taitung City is just 42km away.

Climate
This township is located south of the Tropic of Cancer, having a tropical monsoon climate. With an annual average temperature of 24oC, the average temperature in spring is about 23.6oC; summer, 37.5oC; autumn, 24.6oC; winter, 19.4oC, and January average temperature, 18.9, July average temperature 27.8. Meanwhile, the average temperature in July is 27.8oC. The temperature varies little throughout the year, and the four seasons are indistinguishable.
Located at the southern section of Huatung Gorge, Guanshan Town neighbors the Coastal Mountains in the east and Central Mountains in the west, with Beinan River running through it. Guanshan Town has a tropical monsoon climate. Its annual rainfall is 2,000mm, with an average temperature of 23.7oC.
Ethnic Culture
This township is located by the Huatung Railroad. According to the household statistics in the early Restitution period, there were only 5350 people living in the villages scattered around it. Between 1956 and 1957, many people moved in from western Taiwan and began to explore the land. The year with the maximum, 16221, population was 1968. Due to the transformation into industrial society and the attack of typhoons Elaine and Viola, the water fields around Tekao and Hsinfuli were drowned by the floods. With the loss of about 200 hectares of fields, the people were in hardship. Since then, the population began to move away.
Now, there are 7 boroughs and 135 parishes. With about 3168 households, the total population is 10032, of which 2410 are indigenous people (2161 flatland indigenous people and 249 mountainous indigenous people); 1000 veterans retreated from China; the rest, Fujianese and Hakka lived in Guanshan for generations. The major religions here are Buddhism and Taoism. And some of the people believe in Christianity and Catholicism. Moreover, most of the indigenous people believe in Christianity and Catholicism. Now, there are 5 temples, 6 Christian churches, and 2 Catholic churches here.
